5 Things Thursday 10.13.11 Sleeper’s Edition

Alright, y’all (yes, y’all – no southern accent involved) I made it. After last week’s absence of 5 Things Thursday, I know that you were at a loss for what to do without your weekly dose of random health information, but I’m making it up to you. OK, I’m not –I’m just posting this week’s 5 Things on time. So, yay me!

This week I thought that I would focus on something that I didn’t get enough of last night: sleep. 20% of Americans report that they get 6 hours of sleep or less per evening. For me, if I get anything under 7 hours, I’m half-alive most of the day. (Alright, maybe I’m just a little tired and more likely to zone out.)

But seriously, why not read more about how getting more of something that makes us feel good (and many people enjoy) is good for us? AKA – your excuse the next time you’re late to work (or class) (or life).

Let’s get started, shall we?

1. Falling below the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night?

Check out these 3 sleep myths that you may be believing. I’ll give you a hint: it doesn’t matter if you don’t feel tired or “catch up” on weekends.

2. How’s your sleep been lately?

If you answered “Why Megan, it was quite sub-optimal lately,” then you’re in luck. Here’s some tips for getting quality zzzzz’s

3. Want to look younger?

See how sleep can do the trick. No surgery/expensive creams involved.

4. Just incase #2 wasn’t enough for you…

Here’s some more information about how to get a good night’s sleep. (Warning: there are repeats and the two contradict each other in some ways– try and see if you can tell)

5. Developing the purrrfect bedtime routine.

Hint: there are not necessarily any cats involved.

How much sleep do you get a night?
I get about 7 hours most nights.

Have you noticed sleep’s affect on you/your body?

Learn anything cool this week?
