5 Things.

So I was thinking about what I wanted to talk about today on this free-form-all-about-Megan blog (Ok, maybe it’s a little more focused than that) and I my recent camera laziness has proven to foil my posting plans. I really wanted to post about my new peanut butter and _____ sandwiches I’ve come up with, but alas, I either didn’t snap a photo or am too lazy to walk to the kitchen and grab my camera. You decide. Either way, that is not what we will be talking about on this occasion. (But if you care to know, this:

pb & pear w/cinnamon

is still my favorite.)
So instead of that, I will be sharing 5 things that have/are sparked/sparking my interest:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

I’d read about apple cider vinegar’s health benefits here and there, but recently my dear friend, Annie,  re-sparked my interest. After a short bout of my own research, I came up with a few modest findings:
A. It can aid in weight-loss :
Apparently, a small study (or two) has shown that dieters lost more body fat when they consumed 1-2 tablespoons of the stuff daily than those who had a placebo. Other sources I found noted that the study was small, and more research should be done on the matter.
B. It may help manage Diabetes:
According to webmd, several studies have found that consuming it before bed helps to lower morning glucose levels.
C. Cancer? Blood pressure?:
WebMD says that studies measuring this were mostly observational. However, there was an association found between these and apple cider vinegar consumption.
D. Alkali- aid?:
I don’t know if you all are familiar with the alkali theory about your body. Basically it says that our body has an optimal pH and our diets should reflect that. Apple cider vinegar has been noted to help alkalize that body, but the evidence that I found is anecdotal.
All in all, I decided that I may as well start drinking apple cider vinegar for a while as a daily supplement. (mixed in water) I’ll let you know how it goes.

2. Why have I never heard about this Asparagus + Alcohol Connection?
Apparently asparagus helps to reduce liver toxicity (which alcohol spikes). So the theory is that maybe if you eat asparagus before (while?) drinking you will not get a hangover? Or how about a frozen asparagus

3.  I did not watch the Glee season finale yet. Don’t tell me what happens!

4. Kids + Grandparents = Best buddies?
Seriously, I really try hard not to tell other people about things I got from John Tesh. Not that I have anything against him but he’s so full-of cheese, and he’s one of those jump-at-a-new-finding kind of guy.
why am I so captivated by his information?
So apparently, John Tesh reports that now more than other times in history, grandchildren are becoming “best buddies” with their grandparents due to new technology. It’s a brief and interesting read.

5. I’m a night snacker.
Ok this isn’t something that’s sparking my interest, but I thought that I’d just throw it out there. I usually eat something within the hour that I go to bed. I think it’s half out of habit, but I enjoy it.

So, now it’s your turn.

Anything sparking your interest lately?

Are you a night snacker?

  1. >I am a HORRIBLE night snacker. I think I eat twice as much between 7:00 and 10:00 at night as I do the rest of the day. Part of it probably come from working out in the afternoon, but I figure as long as I'm maintaining my weight and still can sleep and feel good, then I'm OK. [And I'd hate waking up hungry in the middle of the night!]
